Tara Jiminez has worked in the mental health field for 7 years. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from The University of Houston Downtown in 2005. Tara then went on to receive a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from The University of Texas at San Antonio. After moving from Texas, Tara obtained her Licensed Professional Counselor’s license (LPC008472) in the state of Georgia and where she currently works.
While in San Antonio, Tara compassionately worked on an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team for adults ages 18-65 diagnosed with Schizophrenia and Bipolar disorder. While on the ACT team she helped clients with a wide range issues from budgeting to family functioning to medication management and everything in between. These clients were frequently in and out of a hospital and relied on Tara and the rest of the team to manage and work through crises. She learned that despite what challenges life may bring, you ultimately choose how to react and live with those challenges.
In Georgia, Tara began working with children, adolescents and their families, effectively treating and managing their struggles of behavioral issues, depression, and anxiety. Additionally, she is well versed in the areas of foster care, adoption, and blended family adjustments. Since she worked in her client’s homes, often times other issues would arise which she gladly would take a little extra time to work through; whether it was parent relationships, family communication, roles or expectations of all family members or teen pregnancy, she eagerly stepped up and helped her clients work through their struggles.
Tara is a wife, a mother, and a quilter as well. She is always striving to keep the delicate balance between work and home life. Her motto is: There may be many peaks in the mountain range of your life but eventually you gain the tools you need to make it over the top of each peak.
Tara’s approach consists of a variety of therapeutic modalities, including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person Centered, Solution Focused, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
