Karen Carnival has earned her Bachelor of Social Work degree in May, 1998 from St. Leo University. Karen has obtained her Master of Science in Human Services with a concentration in Mental Health Counseling at Springfield College, Tampa campus in August, 2009. She is receiving direct supervision from Carol Moore, MA, LPC (Director for CI), and in the process of studying for the National Counselors Exam to obtain the Associate Professional Counselors License.
Karen has experience working with adolescents and adults both on the individual and family level. She has worked for 12 years in both the inpatient and outpatient settings with the severe and persistent mentally ill. Karen is invested in helping those who suffer from bipolar, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, anxiety, eating disorders, grief/loss and depression. Karen also has over 7 years of experience working as a hospital medical social worker in the areas of neurology and cancer. Karen believes that a strong therapeutic working relationship is essential to the counseling process.
Karen’s approach is to offer support, provide feedback and to empower those by encouraging, and developing the skills for self-sufficiency. Karen integrates different theories and techniques (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy & Person-Centered Therapy) to suit the individual needs of every client. Karen seeks to create a safe and non-judgmental environment. She believes the key to a positive working client-therapist relationship begins and ends with honesty and trust.
